It is July 23 and the GarageDominium exterior is coming along. It won’t be long until stonework is started. We are just waiting on the stone to show up. I had some concern about the stone to stucco interface. Several walls will be part stone and part stucco. I want to be sure water from a driving rain (assuming it ever rains again) can’t get behind the stone. The builder assured me that this would not be a problem. However, the project manager suggested adding a 1 x 4 banding strip above the stone. This will protect the stucco/stone joint and help water to shed away from the back of the stone. It also looks better since it matches the door and window trim.
Quiz of the week . . . can you find the missing vertical batten in the picture below? Let me know in the comments if you notice the problem. No telling how many times I’ve looked at this wall and I just now noticed the missing batten. The U.W., builder, and project manager did not see it either until I pointed it out. Once pointed out it really stands out.
The plumbers installed the whole house water shut off. It cuts off almost all of the water. It isolates everything except for one hydrant which has its own shut off valve. Why? Your guess is as good as mine, but I suppose it works since the valves are next to each other. I can shut them both off as needed.
Insulators started on July 20. The foam insulation was complete except for the garage ceiling. They also have not sprayed poly seal around windows, doors, and top plates. The foam looks pretty good. There are a few areas to fill in so we will walk the house with the insulation contractor to point out those issues. Now the house is like a giant Yeti cooler. I just hope it holds its temperature as well.
Looking good. Guess I failed the quiz because I didn’t see the batten issue.
its the 8th one over from the left. When we decided to add plantation shutter to the front windows on the house during our build we had several Co’s come out and measure to give us a price. during the process we decided to have the shutters split so you could open either the top or the bottom or both we finally picked the local sales company and had him come out one more time to measure. He does the house then goes into the garage then he comes back to me and says I do not want to get anyone in trouble but come look at the windows in the garage so I did he point out that the one window the center of the windowpane was not the same as the other windows I could not tell you how many times we all walked past the windows and never saw that it was different but it was a bunch.
Thanks for the story. Sometimes these issues are honest mistakes, sometimes they just hope you won’t notice.
